AIZAWL: The Aizawl battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of 23 Sector Assam Rifles/ Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) the 'World Polio Day' was observed at the Battalion HQs here and all COBs.
A polio awareness drive was organized at Bn HQ and all COBs of 46 AR. The aim of this drive was to generate awareness amongst the locals about polio, its causes and prevention and also make people aware of the importance of 'World Polio Day'.
The troops of Assam Rifles went to Schools and other places in their AOR to make people aware of Polio and cautioned them about polio. They educated them that this infection mostly affects children under the age of 5 years but can be contracted by unvaccinated adults too and ignoring it can hamper future of their children, stated a release.
Altogether 21 children were immunized for polio at the Unit hospital in the Battalion headquarters. The initiative will go a long way to address the concerns of polio in the remote areas and also strengthen the relations between border guarding forces and locals in the border areas, the release added.
