Assam Rifles recovers heroin worth over Rs 28 lakh from Zokhawthar-Melbuk road

In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 57 gm of heroin worth around Rs 28.5 lakh from the Zokhawthar-Melbuk road on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the operation was carried out by a team of the Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles and the Zokhawthar police based on specific information. Three persons have been detained in this connection for further legal proceedings.

'KNOW YOUR ARMY': The Serchhip Battalion conducted an awareness lecture on 'Know your Army' on Kargil Vijay Divas at Khankawn village on Tuesday, stated another press release.

The aim of the lecture was to spread awareness about the Armed Forces among the villagers and inform them about sacrifice and contributions made by the Indian Army. The villagers were informed on various avenues and procedures to join the Indian Army and in order to choose this honourable profession in the three branches of the Defence forces. The Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles has always been committed to educating and motivating the youths of Mizoram and building good relationship with the civil populace.

VIJAY DIVAS: According to yet another press release, the Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), celebrated 23 years of Kargil Vijay Divas on Tuesday at the ARPS School in Lunglei.

The battalion conducted various events like 'Poster-cum-Painting Competition' for students on the theme of Vijay Divas. A total 37 students participated in the event.

During the event, students were briefed about Kargil War, which was fought between India and Pakistan.
