AIZAWL: In its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 250 bags of areca nuts from the the area of Tlangsam- Ruantlang on August 6.
Based on specific information, the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Customs Department, Champhai .
The approximate market value of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 47,70,000. The Customs Preventive Force of Champhai seized the contraband items.
The Department personnel also detained two individuals in this regard, stated a press release.
FOREIGN CIGARETTES RECOVERED, TWO DETAINED: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), seized 10 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes from the general area of Chhungte in Mizoram on August 7.
Based on specific information, the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Customs department of Champhai.
The approximate market value of the seized foreign-origin cigarettes, is Rs 13,00,000. The recovered items were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force of Champhai, for further legal proceedings.
The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a press release.
