Assam Rifles seizes cache of arms & ammunition in Aizawl

AIZAWL: In a major successful operation against anti-national activities, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered a huge cache of weapons and war-like stores (WLS) on Sunday.

The operation was carried out near Kelsih, 19 km south of the Aizawl district, based on specific information.

An operation was launched by personnel from the Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles on the basis of specific information of possible smuggling of weapons and WLS near Kelsih village. The Assam Rifles team noticed and intercepted two hired vehicles in the area and spot-checking was carried out by the team.

During spot-checking weapon and WLS were recovered and four individuals were detained. Use of such war like stores could have endangered the lives of innocent people and led to various illegal activities. This recovery has prevented the loss of precious lives. The recoveries made included three pump action shotguns, five .22 rifles, seven telescopic sights, 20 boxes of air pellets, one bipod, 10 PDF flags, three boxes of PDF badges, 2,000 metres (44kg) of safety fuse, 3,000 kg (24,000) sticks of gelatin, and around 100 kg of gunpowder. Two vehicles were also seized, stated a press release.

Assam Rifles, 'Friends of the Hill People' has over the years continued to fight against anti-national activities. This operation is a huge setback for all anti-national activists. The operation's success would go a long way in establishment of peace and harmony.
