AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), seized 102 bags of contraband areca nuts worth over Rs 26 lakh in the Ruantlang area on Friday, stated a press release.
The seizure was made from two trucks which were coming from Tlangsam, Champhai.
The operation was carried out by team of 8 Assam Rifles and 11 Assam Rifles after receiving specific information.
The seized bags were handed over to the Customs Department at Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling of areca nuts is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border.
