Assam Rifles seizes methamphetamine tablets worth around Rs 1.02 crore

The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles recovered 51,000 methamphetamine tablets worth around Rs 1.02 crore from the Zokhawthar area in the Champhai district.

Aizawl: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 51,000 methamphetamine tablets worth around Rs 1.02 crore from the Zokhawthar area in the Champhai district Thursday.

According to a press release, the operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles based on specific information.

The illegal consignment has been handed over to the Champhai police along with three persons who were apprehended in this connection. Ongoing smuggling of methamphetamine tablets is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast', has continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
