Big heroin haul by Assam Rifles in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 154 grams of heroin worth about Rs 61.60 lakh in the Khankawn area of Champhai district on Tuesday, stated a press release.

The operation was carried out on the basis of specific information by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 2 Assam Rifles, 20 FIT (DGARFIU) and representatives of the Champhai-based Excise & Narcotics Department.

The Excise & Narcotics Department seized the contraband items and detained one individual for further legal proceedings.

Ongoing smuggling of heroin is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the Indo-Myanmar border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast', have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
