AIZAWL: Vehicles waiting for their turn in an orderly manner on the roads even during traffic jams is a common sight in the capital city of Mizoram. But multiple members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly hitching rides on their way to the Assembly managed to grab eyeballs around the country.

The pictures of three members of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly including a minister were widely shared over multiple media channels. They have been seen hitching rides to the assembly as their vehicles were stuck in the traffic of the capital city. Land Revenue and Settlement Minister Lalruatkima was the minister and opposition Zoram People's Movement leader Lalduhoma along with ruling Mizo National Front member F Lalnunmawia were seen as pillion riders on Tuesday.

The politicians were heading towards the state assembly when they got stuck in the traffic of the city. The budget session is now on for the Mizoram state assembly and the legislators were on their way to attend the same on Tuesday.

The city of Aizawl is known to have notoriously long traffic jams mainly due to small and age-old roads. With houses and businesses on both sides, there is hardly any space left for any possible extension of these roads. It is just because the people of the city strictly follow all traffic rules, that the streets do not come to a standstill.

The ministers were stuck on their way to the assembly due to a traffic snarl, caused by the renovation of an important road between Temple Square and Vaivakawn. Development is underway in the city ahead of the three-day B20 meeting which will be organised by the CII as part of India’s G20 presidency.

“The three legislators were stuck due to road renovation works. They were standing on the roadside. As I approached them, minister Lalruatkima asked me to give a ride to Lalduhoma. And he got onto the two-wheeler of another journalist. Lalnunmawia was given a lift by another person,” mentioned a senior reporter of a local newspaper.
