Aizawl: A minor girl hailing from Mizoram reportedly passed away on Sunday nearly 24 hours after she was detected for COVID-19, informed Lalmuanawma Jongte, the immunisation officer of the state.
As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Christy Lalchhanhimi and she took her last breath at around 1 am on April 3.
After testing positive for COVID-19, Christy was admitted to the Dedicated Covid Health Centre (DCHC) at Lunglei in Mizoram on April 1.
The official further added that the minor girl happened to be the first COVID-19 fatality in the state in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total number of active COVID-19 cases in Mizoram stands at 978. On the other hand, the total number of recoveries so far is clocked at 2,23,123, including 53 people on Sunday, April 3.
Currently, the recovery rate in the state is 99.25 percent while the death rate is clocked at 0.30 percent.
Earlier, the Mizoram government on Wednesday had informed that the schools across the state will reopen for all classes from 5th April 2022.
The decision had been taken after emphasizing the improvement in the COVID-19 situation across the state which shows less risk associated with physical classes.
The Mizoram Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte stated to the school department authorities and representatives of teachers' associations that students have suffered a great loss in education because of schools being closed for a long time due to covid pandemic.
