Mizoram: Assam Police Seized Foreign Contrabands Over Rs 1 Crore

AIZAWL : Assam police has successfully busted yet another smuggling racket on 1st February, Wednesday. Serchhip Battallion of 23 Assam Rifles seized as many as 77 cases of foreign cigarettes at Zokhawthar. 

The seized contrabands are approximately worth Rs 1.155 crore. A joint operation team was formed based on prior information regarding movement of the illicit items in the region, by Assam Rifles, Customs Unit and LCS Zokhawthar. 

The team was headed by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles. Furthermore, the contrabands were presented before the Custom Department, on the same day for legal investigation process. Mizoram is in the limelight for all the smuggling activities that are being carried out by smugglers, across the state. 

Mizoram police in two different search operations, nabbed six people smuggling heroine worth Rs 4.1 crore, on 23rd January, Monday. Based on a prior information, few police personnels intercepted a truck at the Vairengte police station junction located in Kolasib district in Assam border. 

The intercepted truck carried empty LPG cylinders on it. The team of police after a keen check, recovered 625 grams of heroin which was approximately worth Rs 3.4 crore. 

As per reports, the truck was approaching towards Assam. The illicit drugs were cunningly packed in 50 soup cases and was sealed in the empty LPGs. The driver has been identified by the official as Azizur Rahman Laskar of 40 years old, who was a resident of Assam's Cachar district Sonai region. Laskar was detained in connection with the matter.
