AIZAWL : An MP in Mizoram has appealed for disciplinary action to the Centre, regarding delay in construction of a road project along the India-Myanmar border. The MP wrote against the Border Road Organisations.

The road between Sangau and Saisichhuah in Lawngtlai, was released by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region through North East Council in 2020.

The BRO claimed that the prime reason behind the delay is because of the land issue. People from varied villages urged the construction of roads in their respective areas. K. Vanlalvena, a Rajya Sabha member of Mizoram, has put forwards a letter to the Union Defence Secretary, Giridhar Aramane on 11th January, Wednesday.

The Mizoram MP in his letter to the centre, mentioned that DoNER ministry released an amount of Rs 66 crore for the road project and the contract was handed over to the Border Road Organisation.

The BRO has failed to establish even a meter of the total designed project even after 26 months of the proposal. The concerned ministry has decided to pull back the sanction as the time period is over for the completion of the project, added the MP.

Furthermore, Vanlalvena further mentioned the importance of the border road in his letter. Not just for the Mizo locals but assigned road has national security relevance. Stern actions should be taken against the BRO for their laid back attitude in this regard, the MP wrote in the letter.

A chief engineer of the BRO asserted that, the failure has arise due to the absence of land required for the construction of the road. The state administration did not offer any land for the same, hence, the the project failed execution.

Recently, NEC requested land for the completion of the project to the Mizoram government, added the chief engineer SP Kolipey.
