Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has publicly apologized on his official Instagram handle for his daughter's misbehavior with a doctor earlier this week.
Earlier this week, a video of the CM's daughter Milari Chhangte went viral on social media, wherein she was seen hitting a doctor at a clinic. As the video of this incident went viral, the doctors of Mizoram reacted strongly.
The incident has sparked outrage among the medical fraternity, with over 800 doctors staging a protest on Saturday and condemning the alleged assault.
In protest against the incident, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mizoram chapter, asked its members to wear black badges throughout the day of protest.
One of the protesters, L. Hmar said that Chhangte had assaulted a skin specialist in Aizawl on Wednesday after she was asked to come with an appointment to the clinic.
"We wish that such acts of violence against medical practitioners should never happen again," the Mizoram unit of the IMA said in a statement.
Taking to Instagram, the Chief Minister said that he went to the dermatologist and apologized to him. He also thanked IMA for not taking "strong action" against Chhangte.
"We have nothing to say in defense of our daughter's behavior towards the doctor. We apologize to the public and the doctor," Zoramthanga said.
Earlier, Chhangte's elder brother, Ramthansiama, had also issued an apology on social media, stating that her sister "went out of control" due to mental stress.
