AIZAWL: In a significant operation, Mizoram Police achieved a major breakthrough on October 3 when they intercepted a massive haul of rare methamphetamine, commonly known as Crystal Meth, at Lengpui Airport in Aizawl. The seized contraband, weighing approximately 10.4 kilograms, is estimated to be valued at around Rs. 31 crore in the international drug market.

According to an official statement released by the authorities, the illegal substance was being transported from Myanmar to Delhi by a 38-year-old woman identified as Lalremthangi. She had concealed the Crystal Meth in a suitcase, which aroused suspicion when it was subjected to scanning through INDIGO's security X-ray baggage inspection system at the airport. Upon receiving this information, the Mizoram Police's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) unit swiftly sprang into action, successfully detecting and confiscating the illicit substance.

“When the suitcase was scanned at INDIGO security X-ray baggage inspection system at the Airport, suspicious packages were found. On receiving the above information, Mizoram Police's ANTF (Anti-Narcotics Task Force) unit sprung into action, detected and seized the contraband substance,” the statement read.

Following the seizure, Lalremthangi was taken into custody, and a case was registered against her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Foreigners Act. Further investigation revealed that the accused woman is a citizen of Myanmar who had been residing in Delhi, where she worked at a spa. It was discovered that she had recently traveled to Myanmar and was attempting to transport a substantial quantity of drugs back to Delhi through Aizawl. This operation carried out by the Mizoram Police is regarded as one of the most significant and rarest drug busts in recent times.

This achievement comes just a month after the Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTF) in Aizawl had made a similar seizure of 3 kilograms of Crystal Meth, which was valued at approximately Rs. 9 crore in the international drug market. The back-to-back successful operations by Mizoram Police underline their commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety and security of the region.

This latest seizure not only deals a blow to the illicit drug trade but also highlights the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in thwarting transnational criminal activities. Mizoram Police's vigilance and dedication to upholding the law have made a significant impact on curbing the flow of dangerous narcotics in the region and beyond.
