AIZAWL: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Mizoram, featuring an array of promises designed to appeal to voters, with a particular focus on women's empowerment.
In the 70-page 'Vision Document,' the BJP lays out its vision for the state's development and progress.
Speaking at the manifesto's release, BJP President JP Nadda expressed the party's unwavering commitment to making these promises a reality. "Many political parties come out with their vision document, their mission document, their manifesto, but we find them to be a mere piece of paper because even they are not very sure whether they are going to pursue that vision or mission or commitment. But, when BJP brings out a 'vision document', it is well-researched," he said.
The BJP's key pledges in their manifesto include a substantial investment of Rs 1,000 crore to revamp the agricultural infrastructure of the state, demonstrating their commitment to the welfare of farmers. Moreover, the party has vowed to introduce a 33% reservation for women in government jobs and establish the 'Mizoram Hmeichhiate Battalion,' marking the state's first all-women police battalion.
The BJP's dedication to women's welfare continues with the proposed 'Queen Ropuiliani Women Empowerment Scheme,' which will provide a cumulative financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh to every girl child. In the fight against drug addiction among the youth, the party has introduced 'Operation Drug-Free Mizoram,' a comprehensive plan that will be implemented if they secure power in the upcoming elections.
Addressing concerns over governance, Nadda announced the establishment of a special investigation team to probe irregularities and corruption in the implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Programme, the flagship scheme of the Mizo National Front (MNF) government led by Zoramthanga.
The BJP has also committed to resolving the longstanding border dispute between Mizoram and Assam, highlighting their dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence in the region.
The Mizoram assembly elections are scheduled for November 7, with vote counting on December 3. The BJP, which contested 39 seats in the last assembly polls in 2018, is now vying for 23 seats. Currently holding one MLA in the existing assembly, the party aims to expand its presence and implement its transformative agenda for Mizoram.
