Mizoram : Vehicle Fell Off A Cliff, 5 Died On Spot

The episode took place in Champhai district of Mizoram when passenger carrying Tata Sumo fell off a cliff

AIZAWL : Mizoram witnessed a tragic episode in the end of 2022. The unfortunate incident took place on 30th of December, in the morning hours when a Tata Sumo, fell off a cliff in Chhungte, Champhai district. 

Eight people were inside the vehicle, out of which five individuals lost their lives on spot. The vehicle was a maxi cab service. 

The deceased has been identified as Parthai, 37 year old Mungsiandawnga, who was a resident of Pakzang village, Ginsiankhupa of 32 years who hailed from the Sialtui village, Tialliancheua, a resident of Chichai village and Lallunghnema who was 36 years old from Zokhawthar village.

An infant and two other person travelling in the vehicle got critically injured in the tragic episode. As per the sources, the mishap took place while the vehicle was approaching towards Zokhawthar from Aizawl.

However, the exact reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained. It is worth mentioning that, the state transport minister, TJ Lalnuntluanga, visited the spot of incident and the hospital where the injured ones were admitted for treatment in Champhai District Hospital.

A report was released in the middle of this year, which stated that Mizoram has the highest accident rate in the entire country. The report was issued by the Transport Research Wing of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Early in the month of December, four persons including a 11 year old boy died in a tragic road accident in Lunglei distict in Mizoram. The episode occurred after a truck in which they were travelling fell into a gorge. The vehicle slipped off the road and fell in the gorge near Thingfal village. As per the police reports, all the individuals present in the truck died on spot.

Not just Mizoram, but several region in the northeast states has witnessed a rise in road accidents. Most of the cases are registered as due to loss in control of the vehicles.
