NEW DELHI: Mizoram’s ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), which is a partner of the NDA, has decided to back the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition bloc INDIA against the BJP-led Government at the Centre, said Lok Sabha MP C. Lalrosanga here on Thursday, August 10.

MP Lalrosanga said that he will be voting in favour of the no-confidence motion due to the Manipur Government and the Centre’s “failure to handle” the ethnic violence that is still rocking the neighbouring State.

“I will back the Opposition’s no-confidence motion. It is not because I support the Congress or [want to] go against the BJP, but to show our outright distress and Opposition to the complete failure of the governments, especially the Manipur Government, in handling the situation,” he said.

He stressed that the MNF is upset and moved over the situation faced by the Zo-ethnic people in strife-torn Manipur, he said. The Zo-ethnic people in both Mizoram and Manipur share a common ancestry.

MNF MP Lalrosanga went on to say that discussions on the issue has been held with party president Zoramthanga, the Chief Minister of Mizoram, as well as other leaders and that they have all expressed their agreement to back the no-confidence motion.

While a constituent member of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) in the NE region, the ruling MNF is as also a member of the BJP- led NDA at the Centre.

Meanwhile, MNF Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena, who has been voicing his concerns on the Manipur issue, also revealed that he will continue to express his concerns in Parliament as they were miffed at the government’s handling of the situation.

The voting on the no-trust motion is likely to be held in the Lok Sabha after Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivers his reply on the issue, Mr. Lalrosanga said.

However, the no-confidence motion moved by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on behalf of the Opposition alliance INDIA is sure to end in failure as the BJP-led NDA has the majority numbers in the Lok Sabha.

This is the second time since BJP came to power that PM Modi is facing a no-confidence motion against his government.
