38 NCC cadets from Northeast join Vayu Sainik camp

KOHIMA: The Pre-All India Vayu Sainik Camp-II and Combined Annual Training Camp-75, organized by 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC, Dimapur, under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarter, Kohima at the NCC Training Academy, Jorhat, for Air Wing cadets of Northeastern States concluded on Wednesday.

The camp was an eight-day intensive training course attended by five Officers, 19 Air Force/Army instructional staff, six Associated NCC Officers and 300 Air Wing NCC cadets.

The main focus of the camp, which is in line with the aim of NCC, is to develop character, camaraderie, a secular outlook, spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst the cadets. In addition, the aim of the camp was also to train and select cadets for the All India Vayu Sainik Camp, an All-India competition for Air Wing cadets, to be held at Jodhpur from September 21 to October 5. A total of 38 boys and girls from the Northeastern States were selected for the camp at Jodhpur.

Brig Praveen Singh Sangwan, Group Commander, NCC Group, Kohima visited the camp from September 18 to September 20. During the interaction with the cadets, he urged them to make full use of various training activities planned in the camp and motivated the cadets for utilizing the benefits of various certificates issued by NCC. The importance of time management, discipline, role of cadets in nation building and service to the nation were also emphasized upon.

During the camp, the Flying Officer Simon Kachari Award, named after the IAF fighter pilot martyred in 1996 in Bhutan during the crash of a MIG-27, for the best Air Wing Cadet was also given away on behalf of Maj Gen Bhasker Kalita,YSM, ADG, NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region. UO Pranjol Nath of 50 Assam Air Sqn NCC, NCC Group HQ Guwahati was awarded the best cadet in SD Boys category and Cadet Kikasangla of No 1 Nagaland Air Sqn NCC, NCC Group HQ Kohima was awarded in Senior Wings girls category.

Wing Commander TS Singh, CO, 1 Nagaland Air Squadron and also the Camp Commandant, informed that various activities were carried out including ground training for flying, aero-modelling, drill with and without arms, range firing practice including Skeet Shooting and tent pitching. Classes were also conducted on various aviation subjects, health & hygiene, service subjects, personality development, social service and community development.

The NCC Directorate, North-Eastern Region Contingent includes 24 Senior Division Boy and 14 Senior Wing Girl cadets and two ANOs left for Jodhpur. The Contingent commander for the NER Contingent is Flying Officer Wetshete Thopi from 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC.
