KOHIMA: The Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio has announced that the neighbouring state of Assam will be the partner state for this year’s Hornbill Festival. It can be noted that the Hornbill Festival is the biggest festival in the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland and one of the biggest in the entire region.
The announcement came on Tuesday over the social media site X from the handle of the chief minister where he expressed his gratitude to the chief minister of Assam for agreeing with the same. He said, "My gratitude to the Hon'ble @CMOfficeAssam Shri @himantabiswa Ji for your positive response and for making this partnership a reality. Welcome, Amazing Assam to the #LandOfFestivals!"
As for the partner countries, it was earlier announced that Germany, the United States and Columbia will be the partner countries for this year’s festival. This announcement came at the beginning of this month.
The 10-day-long cultural extravaganza is all set to be flagged off on December 1. The festival is held on fixed dates every year at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama of Nagaland, which is located about 12 kilometres from the capital city of Kohima. Called the festival of festivals, this event attracts a large number of domestic as well as foreign tourists who take the chance to explore and witness the vibrant culture and traditions of the state.
Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared his happiness regarding the matter. He shared the post by Neiphiu Rio and mentioned, ”Hon’ble Chief Minister, it is an absolute privilege for Assam to join hands with Nagaland for the upcoming Hornbill Festival. This festival has emerged as one of the greatest platforms to showcase the shared cultural heritage of North East.”
The Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is popularly called the Festival of Festivals and signifies the coming together of the tribes of the state. The event showcases the culture, food, traditions and costumes of the multiple major tribes of Nagaland.
