Dimapur: The Naga People's Front (NPF) has anguish over the destructive wildfire at Dzukou valley, which began on December 29, 2020 saying that it 'can not be considered as a natural disaster but is a man-made fire.'

According to a media report, the NPF in a press release issued through its Press Bureau claimed that "the Dzukou Valley inferno cannot be considered a natural disaster but is a man-made fire that is causing extreme harm to the beauty of the Valley as well as to our environment."

It said that besides a tourist hotspot Dzukou Valley is also a National asset and is home to various species of flora and fauna and it would profoundly dampen the ecological balance by burning of such forest.

Therefore, it said, "The uninterested attitude of the state government can not be tolerated and requested the Chief Minister of the State or his ministerial cabinet to take the necessary steps to contain the fire and protect the valley."

"And since the Dzukou Valley can be called as the National Asset, the NPF strongly urged the Central Government to look at the matter immediately and may even involve the NIA or CBI to investigate the cause of the inferno and strict action should be taken if any miscreants responsible for the inferno are found," it added.

In the meantime, the NPF praised the State Governor, RN Ravi, for showing personal concern and visiting the blazing Dzukou Valley to collect first-hand information. It also appreciated the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force (IAF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), DC and SP of Kohima, Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO), Forest Department, and all concerned individuals to make their best effort to douse the flames.
