NAGALAND: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president, JP Nadda, has announced the appointment of Benjamin Yepthomi as the new state president of the Nagaland unit of the party.

According to the official notification, Yepthomi's appointment is effective immediately. He previously held the position of vice president in the Nagaland state BJP and served as the former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nagaland for two consecutive terms.

Benjamin Yepthomi will succeed Temjen Imna Along as the party's state president. Along had assumed the role in January 2020.

On a national level, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant leadership changes with the appointment of S Selvaganabathy, a Rajya Sabha MP, as the new president of the party's Puducherry unit. Additionally, the Nagaland unit also has seen its vice president assume the role of state president.

In a separate development, the BJP has named Rikman Momin as the state president of its Meghalaya unit. These appointments were formally approved by BJP chief J.P. Nadda, as confirmed by party notifications issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, under flak for using derogatory words against BSP MP Danish Ali in Lok Sabha, met the ruling party president J P Nadda on Monday. Bidhuri met Nadda at the BJP headquarters, days after he was issued a show-cause notice by the party for his remarks.

There was no official word on what transpired in the meeting. Amid demand by several opposition parties that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla take action against him, many BJP MPs have written to the Chair, alleging that Ali "instigated" Bidhuri and seeking probe into his utterances as well.

The ruling BJP and the CPI(M) will oppose the 12-hour bandh on September 30 called by the Tipra Motha in tribal council areas in Tripura.
