Nagaland: Chief Secretary Urges Road Repairs Ahead of Hornbill Festival

The CS has called on the PWD to expedite road repairs, emphasizing the pivotal role of a well-maintained road in shaping the state's image.

GUWAHATI: As the annual Hornbill Festival in Nagaland approaches, Chief Secretary J Alam has expressed concerns about the subpar road conditions on the Kohima to Kisama village route, a major passage for festival attendees.

He has called on the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite road repairs, emphasizing the pivotal role of a well-maintained road in shaping the state's image.

Alam also stressed the importance of collaboration among all departments to actively support local entrepreneurs participating in the festival. He underlined that each department's active involvement and organization of engaging activities were vital to attracting more tourists to the event.

Furthermore, the Chief Secretary emphasized the use of biodegradable products at the Hornbill Festival and the strict enforcement of the plastic ban during the event.

He announced plans for a forthcoming review meeting and urged all departments to submit their proposed activities for further discussion.

The Hornbill Festival is held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, situated approximately 12 km from the state capital, Kohima. The festival is scheduled to commence on December 1.

In other news from the northeastern state, Indian Army's Naga Regiment was conferred the prestigious President’s Colours on Friday, a Defence Ministry statement said. Army chief, General Manoj Pande presented the coveted distinction to the Third Battalion of the Naga Regiment at an impressive Colour Presentation Parade, held at the Kumaon Regimental Centre, Ranikhet (Uttarakhand). After reviewing the parade, the army chief appreciated the rich traditions of the Naga Regiment in all spheres of military activities, including operations, training, and sports.ZHe also complimented the newly raised unit for their remarkable performance within a short period of time and conveyed his best wishes to all ranks to serve the nation with pride, the statement added.

The Colour Presentation parade was also witnessed by Eastern Command chief, Lt Gen R.P. Kalita, who is also the Colonel of the Kumaon and Naga Regiment and Kumaon Scouts, and Central Command chief, Lt Gen N.S. Raja Subramani, along with a large number of serving andretired personnel.
