DIMAPUR: A major road accident took place near the city of Dimapur in Nagaland on Monday night. Two people were speculated to have perished in the incident, but no confirmation was received regarding the same.

The accident took place at the Burma Camp Section of the National Highway 29 near the Dhansiri Bridge. The time of the accident was said to be around 9 PM on Monday. Spectators at the scene of the accident reported that the truck came out of a feeder road from the Burma Camp side and then tipped over on its side while turning towards town. The truck was reportedly transporting a huge consignment of potatoes when the incident took place.

At the same time, two persons aboard a Tata Sumo passenger vehicle were coming from the Purana Bazaar side. Bystanders claimed that the truck toppled over the oncoming car with the two people inside it. The crowd of onlookers dragged the car out from under the truck's debris while three recovery trucks worked to partially lift the truck about an hour later.

It was assumed that the two occupants, the driver and the passenger, had died. But no confirmations were received at the time of filing this report and additional information was being awaited.

A similar incident took place late on Monday night in Guwahati's Narengi area and a middle-aged individual met a tragic end, crushed to death by a tanker truck with registration number AS 25 FC 2596. The victim's identity remains unknown, and the driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the mishap occurred. The deceased faced an untimely demise, leaving authorities and locals in shock. City police swiftly responded to the scene, recovering the lifeless body for post-mortem examination. As the investigation unfolds, the deceased's body now rests at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), awaiting further legal procedures. The abrupt loss of life underscores the need for improved road safety measures and accountability for drivers involved in such incidents.
