KOHIMA : A three-member committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs ( MHA ) visited Nagaland to scrutinise the demand of separate statehood by ENPO. The committee arrived in the state on 16th of December in Tuensang district.
The members included adviser A.K. Mishra, the peace interlocutor, along with the Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau, Dr Mandeep Singh and Director AK Dhayani of Northeast Division. The officials will stay in Nagaland for three days.
The committee initiated the first meeting with Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) on Friday, after their arrival. According to a well informed source, along with the development aspect, ENPO brought in topics of National importance as well making the meeting a fruitful and cordial one.
The report further stated that the MHA committee empathised with the ENPO regarding their demand for a separate state. The committee was aware of the entire scenario and deprivation of the Eastern area and acknowledged their request in a cordial manner.
During their stay, the MHA team will hold meetings with ENPO leaders, government officials, eastern tribal bodies, Eastern Nagaland Women's Organisation, Eastern Nagaland Students Federation and village chiefs. On 18th of December, the committee will visit the International Trade Centre, in Noklak district, an area bordering Myanmar.
Later, a meeting has been scheduled in Kohima to discuss with the State machineries led by Nagaland Chief Secretary.
On 19th of December, ENPO is looking forward for a meeting with the central executive committee. on December, the ENPO leaders also had a talk with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, where the minister promised to visit Nagaland for two days on January 2023. Amit Shah during the meeting highlighted a lawful solution against ENPOs demand for a separate statehood.
The seven tribes demanding Frontier Nagaland also boycotted the 10 day long Hornbill festival this year to protest against the state administration.
