DIMAPUR: The Mon district administration in Nagaland has officially withdrawn its travel advisory that previously urged people to avoid the Sonari route in Assam's Charaideo district.
The advisory, issued by Mon District Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma on September 26, had cautioned vehicles travelling to and from Mon district to steer clear of the Sonari route due to a tense situation following a vehicle accident in the Angjangyang sub-division of the district.
However, after assessing reports and collaborating with police and civil societies in Mon district, along with their counterparts in Sonari, the district administration has determined that the situation is gradually returning to normal.
As a result, the travel advisory has been lifted, and vehicular movement along the Sonari route is now permitted starting from September 29.
On September 26, the Mon district administration clarified that a Tata Yodha vehicle (registration AS 33C 0941) had been involved in an accident in the Angjangyang sub-division of the district. The owner of the vehicle filed a missing complaint at the Aboi police station in Mon district on September 25.
A search operation was launched based on the missing complaint, led by the officer in charge of the police station. During this operation, the missing vehicle and two bodies were recovered on September 25 from the accident site, which was located 200 feet below the road between Angjangyang and Longching in Mon district.
Following established procedures, postmortems were conducted at the Mon district hospital, and the bodies were subsequently handed over to the respective family members on September 26.
The district administration has clarified that the events of September 25 were solely the result of an unfortunate vehicle accident, and no foul play was associated with the incident.
In other news from the state, Nagaland Police launched an app on Wednesday to eradicate extortion and drug menaces in the state. Addressing a press conference at police headquarters, Director General of Police Nagaland Rupin Sharma informed that the app on extortion and drugs will enable people to help the police curb the menace in the state. “Citizens can register via the Movement Against Drugs and Extortion in Nagaland’s Madeinagaland app or go through the website https://madeinagaland.com/nagaland/website/,” an official statement said.
