Nagaland signs MoU with Centre for its second medical college in Mon

Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom has confirmed that the state has secured a nod from the centre to set up its second medical College

Kohima: In a significant development, the Nagaland Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Government's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to set up a second medical college in the Mon district. This was informed by State Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom via a tweet on Friday (September 18).

"The State Government have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the MoHFW, GOI for the establishment of a new Medical College at Mon on 15th September 2020," Phom wrote in a tweet.

In another tweet, Phom thanked Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for sanctioning the upcoming institute in the Mon district. "I sincerely thank the Hon'ble Union Health Minister @drharshvardhan for his kind approval & sanctioning of the Institute to cater to the needs of remote and under served areas and to promote access to quality healthcare," Phom stated.

"We anticipate and call upon our people to extend fullest cooperation from all ends to make this project a dream come true for our own progress and benefit," the Minister wrote in another tweet.

The first medical college in Nagaland is under construction in the state capital of Kohima. Soon, the initial work for the second medical college in Mon will also commence.

This step of the government is expected to significantly improve the health care facility of the state. It will also provide an opportunity for many students to pursue a medical career inside the state.
