Nagaland: Thousands of Fishes Released Into River by TGZPMC

KOHIMA: The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resouces of the government of Nagaland organised an awareness camp on river ranching. This event was organised in collaboration with the Tzula Green Zone Project Management Committee (TGZPMC) on Tuesday. Thousands of fingerlings of fish were released into the Tzula River in the Green Zone. The director of fisheries and aquatic resources highlighted the importance of the preservation of the environment and called it an effective way of combating global warming. He also called it the most effective way to combat global warming.

The director also praised the villages of Ungma and Longsa in the region for their efforts towards the conservation of the river and overall nature. He also called the declaration of the part of the river under their jurisdiction a green zone and highlighted its significance in terms of mitigation of climate change. The officials also asked the villages to enforce strict restrictions against overfishing and the unethical methods used for fishing. He also asked the local people to impose a complete ban on fishing, especially during the three-month breeding season in the region.

Several other dignitaries including the representatives of the village councils and other administrative bodies also attended this event with many local people.

Earlier in the month, a cage culture unit has been set up at Kuhtoli Beel of the Gorukhuti Project in the Darrang district of Assam under the World Bank-funded project APART. Padma Hazarika, chairman of the Project formally launched the unit on Friday by releasing seeds to the water body. Speaking on the occasion, chairman Hazarika lauded the innovative initiative of the State Fishery Department in fulfilling the growing demand of high-yielding fish seeds at an affordable price through this scientific fish seedlings growing unit. Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, CEO of Gorukhuti Project Uddipta Gautam, District Fishery Development Officer Bipul Khataniar, leading progressive fishery entrepreneur of the state Amal Medhi and Biswajyoti Sarma along with others were present on the occasion.
