KOHIMA: Christina Singha from the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) won a bronze medal in the under-42kg category at the 2nd Asmita Taekwondo Women's League (Phase 3).
The event took place on October 3 to 6 at Khelo India Stadium, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
The Nagaland teams sent nine women and were coached by T Alem Aier and Santsuthung Ngullie. Team managers are Dzuvichunuo Rutsa and Shanbeni R Lotha.
The competition had its technical side as well. International referee Moon Thapa and national referee Limatula Jamir represented Nagaland. Moon Thapa was nominated as the technical director of the competition.
The girls thanked the president of the Nagaland Taekwondo Association and the director of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, for the opportunity and exposure to compete in this championship.
Earlier, she had won accolades for the country as Superintendent of Police of Phek district in Nagaland, has been selected as an "2024 IACP 40 Under 40" awardee by the prestigious US-based International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
The IPS officer Kaur, who is a dentist-turned-IPS, is one of 40 police officers selected globally for the award and is one alone from India to win the "2024 IACP 40 Under 40" award this year.
IACP President (Chief Wade Carpenter) in a letter to the 29-year-old Kaur, a native of Haryana told her, "You are part of an incredibly talented, accomplished and dedicated group of individuals who demonstrate leadership and exemplify a deep commitment to the profession."
She said she served as the first SP for a newly created border district. She brought progress and peace to international borders. She used her negotiation skills to avoid border clashes and land disputes and supported anti-drug efforts by providing treatment, counselling, rehabilitation, and livelihood to hundreds of people struggling from drug addiction.
