KOHIMA: In a bid to raise awareness on women empowerment, the Sakhi-One Stop Centre Longleng conducted awareness programme for women at Longleng town Baptist Church and Phomla Hoichem Office (the apex women organization of Phom community) respectively recently, stated a release.
The programme was conducted as part of the IEC (information, Education and Communication) curriculum of the centre. The main purpose was to disseminate information on women-centric issues and rights. While addressing the gathering, Longleng Centre Administrator C Henchem Phom gave a brief introduction on the functioning of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, the various services available and how to avail of such services. She also highlighted on the importance of women helpline 181 and its importance and assistance to aggrieved women. P Phungla Phom WWO, MSK highlighted various schemes and support provided for the women and girl child. She also emphasized on the BBBP, SSA and PMMVY.
Counselor Nyangyungsangla Phom spoke on various Legal women rights and Acts such as the Domestic Violence Act 2005, POCSO 2012, Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act 2000.
Other highlights of the programme included an introductory speech by Shamthai Phom President Phomla Hoichem, interactive sessions and suggestive measures to successfully implement the scheme at Longleng. The programme was attended by a host of women elders and leaders from the district.
