KOHIMA: The senior leader of the Indian National Congress, Shashi Tharoor visited the state of Nagaland to take part in an election campaign ahead of the assembly polls in Nagaland.

The Lok Sabha member mentioned that the solutions for the Naga political problems is long overdue and promised to resolve the same when their party comes to power. He was addressing a rally from the Congress Bhawan when he made these remarks.

Shashi Tharoor also mentioned that the state lacks basic necessities including water, electricity, roads and healthcare even after 60 years of becoming a state adding that Congress is the only way to achieve development and progress in the northeastern state.

"Nagas deserve better than this kind of deception, corruption, dishonesty and inefficiency," Said Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday while adding "The Narendra Modi government had in 2015 announced that a Naga accord was achieved, but later backtracked saying it was only a framework agreement. They are now saying that talks are underway."

He also mentioned that in 2019 the governor of Nagaland had declared that this problem will be resolved within the next three months, but four years on, it has not seen any solution yet and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for “deceiving” the people of Nagaland.

Shashi Tharoor also mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party was busy fooling the people of Nagaland by saying one thing to the Northeastern people and something else to the people residing elsewhere.

He also mentioned that the Congress is expecting to win a good number of seats out of the 23 constituencies that it has given candidates for and thereafter form a coalition government with the members of like-minded parties in the state. He also expressed his trust in the people of the state to elect the Congress candidates to bring around development in the state. Ironically, the party did not have any members in the previous state assembly.
