Three Nagaland MMA Fighters Win Medals in GAMMA Asian MMA Championship 2021

The three Nagaland MMA fighters won two silvers and one won bronze in GAMMA Asian MMA Championship 2021

KOHIMA: The Northeast region of the country is not only famous for its scenic beauty but also famous in the field of sports as three fighters of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) of Nagaland including Kekhrieneitso Angami, Longtsukumba Ao and Arsenba Ozukum won three medals at the Global Martial Arts Association (GAMMA) Asian MMA Championship 2021 on Saturday.

The three Nagaland MMA fighters Kekhrieneitso Angami won the silver along with Longtsukumba Ao who also won silver medals in the lightweight and welterweight divisions respectively, Arsenba Ozukum won bronze in the flyweight category.

Angami faced a defeat to Nurtaza lumakhanova of Kazhalchstan in the final match, while Ao lost to Yazan Jaber of Palestine in a close match.

On the other hand, Ozukum was defeated in his semi-final match to Dinesh Naorem, also from India.

With 22 medals including four gold, seven silver, and 11 bronze, India stood in the third position of the medal tally at the GAMMA Asian MMA Championship.

While with 36 medals Kazakhstan topped the medal tally at the GAMMA Asian MMA Championship, followed by Kyrgyzstan with 22 medals, Palestine with three medals, and Pakistan – three medals.

While in Arunachal Pradesh together 66 sportspersons of different disciplines have been felicitated with cash incentives for their outstanding performance in various competitions at the Zonal, National & International level on the occasion of National Sports Day by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs here on Sunday. In view of the COVID-19 protocol, the whole event was held virtually. Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung attended the event as Chief Guest along with Secretary (SYA) Anirudh Singh, Chairman Sports Authority of Arunachal Byabang Taj, Directors, and other officers also attended the event virtually.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Mama Natung recalled the history of National Sports Day and paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand. Further, he informed that this year 66 athletes of various sports disciplines such as archery, boxing, football, judo, kickboxing, karate-do, taekwondo, weightlifting & wushu were felicitated with cash incentives. Moreover, 10 percent of the total amount will be disbursed to the concerned coach as per the sports policy.
