Violating COVID guidelines can be costly across Nagaland

The Nagaland government will impose fines on people and business firms not following COVID-19 guidelines.

KOHIMA: The Nagaland government will impose fines on people and business firms not following COVID-19 guidelines. People not wearing masks will be fined Rs 100 and institutions without provisions of handwash and sanitiser will have to cough up Rs 500.

The 'Nagaland Disaster Management Authority' observed that not wearing masks, especially in public places, not following social distancing and not sanitising hands in high-risk settings, often pose serious risks of spread of infection not only to the defaulters but also to people around them, said Chief Secretary J Alam. Police, transport officers and the urban local body concerned were given the responsibility to enforce the order. Nagaland has already reported 9,638 COVID-19 cases of which 725 are active. (Agencies)
