Northeastern states top the list of best sex ratio in India

Arunachal Pradesh recorded a healthy count of 1,084 females against per 1000 males, followed by Nagaland with 965 and Mizoram with 964.

Guwahati: The three Northeastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland has topped the list of best sex ratio in India. The three states lead the 2018 report on the Vital Statistics of India, released by the Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Arunachal Pradesh recorded a healthy count of 1,084 females against per 1000 males, followed by Nagaland with 965 and Mizoram with 964. Assam recorded 904 females per 1,000 males, Meghalaya -- 942, Tripura recorded 945 against 1000 males. Manipur recorded the lowest with 757 females out of 1,000 males. Data of Sikkim is not available yet.

The data in the report is based on details provided by the states and union territories. Registrar General while publishing the report stated that "requisite information from 6 states namely Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal is not available."

The number of registered births increased to 2.33 crore in 2018 from 2.21 crore registered births the previous year. From 81.3% in 2009, the number of registration of births increased to 89.3% in 2018.

Sex ratio is one of the basic demographic parameters. it helps to provide an indication of both relative survival of females and males for the future breeding potential of a population. 

The observed sex ratio is most definitely a consequence of natural selection on the basis of sexes and other anthropogenic effects of harvest. 

Qatar has the highest male ratio with 2.87 male/female whereas Alaska had more male to female ratio count too, by state 2018, with 108 men for every 1,000 women.
