New Delhi:
Former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonwal and former Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijuju have been appointed to the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs.
Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal, who earned a seat in Modi's cabinet following its recent reshuffle, has been inducted into the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, which was reconstituted on Monday. It has gained prominence due to the fact that this cabinet committee is the most significant of the Union Cabinet committees.
In addition to Sonowal, another Union Minister from the North East, Kiren Rijiju, has been appointed to the Political Affairs Cabinet Committee.
The Committee also includes Health Minister Mansukh Mandivya, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda.
It should be mentioned that Rijiju, who previously served as Union Sports Minister, is regarded as one of the most successful Ministers. He was given a key ministry, such as Law and Justice, in the latest government reshuffle.
Following the extension of the Union Cabinet, the BJP is currently preparing for yet another change in the organisational set up. In September, the party chose new national office-bearers, and in November of last year, it appointed new state in-charges.
With BJP national general secretaries Bhupender Yadav, Annapurna Devi, and Bisweswar Tudu having been appointed to the Union Cabinet, the party is now trying to replace important positions that have become vacant.
The BJP's national leadership, according to sources, would make a final decision on the nomination of new national office-bearers soon.
The party is also aiming to promote senior party leaders from its different state units who have been dissatisfied with the BJP's top leadership.
According to insiders, the BJP does not want to jeopardise its electoral prospects in five states that will have elections next year due to dissatisfaction among its state units.
