GANGTOK: The inspiring story of a self-made engineer named Bikal Rai from Sikkim gets published in the class 5 book of the government school of Sikkim. His story is published with the hope of motivating the upcoming generations for developing their skills and knowledge.
Bikal Rai's story goes as he belonged to a very poor family who had faced lots of problems in his life after the death of his father. Rai lived in the area of East Sikkim at 32 Mile. He lost his father at the age of 15 and then struggled because of a financial crisis which led him to leave his studies. He stayed at home looking after his family but also remained engaged in making electronic devices by earning money repairing the electronic items at his neighbors.
Rai's story was earlier published by Sikkim Messenger in the year 2013 when he was struggling with his life and this publication brought major changes in his life. He came up with those devices that are not usually expected from a boy of his age.
His innovation includes:
• Hydro Power generator producing 2.3-volt energy with the capacity to charge 4 mobile phones at once and can use for the lighting of 3 bulbs
• A Fan of DC- 3 voltage similar to fans available in the market but his one is cheaper
• Made two excavator models with the use of drip pipes, plastic, syringe, and tyre along with F.M Radio 93.5 and light power steering
• A battery charger for vehicle
• Sensor Operator Car that can move with the sound of clapping
His innovations of new technologies are loved and adored by the people not just from Sikkim but from all over the world. Shri Pawan Chambling, former Chief Minister of Sikkim met him and announced that he will be providing every support to Bikal for his further studies. With the support of the government and other reputed organizations including social workers, well-wishers, and citizens, Bikal Rai joined the Advance Technical Training Centre at Bardang in East Sikkim. At present Rai is pursuing B.Tech at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology located in Majhitar with financial help from Shri Prem Singh Tamang, present Chief Minister of Sikkim.
