Guwahati: In a first of its kind move, the Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad has adopted Navey Shotak G.P.U under Kabi-Tingda BAC in East Sikkim. Governor Prasad has adopted the Village of his own accord. Prasad also gifted a Scooter to the Panchayat for public use to mark the adoption.
A program for the purpose was organised at the school ground of Government Secondary School Penlong, North Sikkim. The Governor in his address expressed happiness for being provided with the opportunity to interact with the people of the village. He also said that it was his pleasure to have been able to adopt the Navey Shotak GPU and mentioned that the evolvement of all the villages falling under the GPU would be taken up on a pilot basis. He reflected on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi that the real India lives in the villages and stated that the life and struggle of rural India resonates with him as he also has his roots in rural India and went on to inform that all initiatives and necessary collaborations for the progress of the GPU would be overseen by him from his level of authority. He solicited the active participation and support of the people of the GPU for the success of this venture
Observing the difference between Villages of Sikkim and elsewhere in the country, the Governor said the villagers in Sikkim were much more advanced and progressive in many aspects than their fraternity in many parts of the country. He was also highly appreciative of the unity and coordination of the Sikkimese towards taking the state to the pinnacles of success and stated that this unique characteristic of Sikkim needs to be replicated by the rest of the country
Earlier, Ganga Prasad visited the Navey Shotak Gram Prashashan Kendra (GPK) where he was accorded a warm welcome by the Panchayat and RMDD Officials. At the GPK he was briefed about the existing schemes, progress & achievements and the fields requiring his intervention on the GPU through a PowerPoint Presentation. Prasad also visited the display pavilion where handicrafts, organic vegetables and readymade eatables were set up by the SRLM SHGs of the area in his honour. Prasad was accompanied by the Minister for Rural Management & Development Sher Bahadur Subedi, MLA Ugen Nedup Bhutia and Secretary Rural Department CS Rao. UNI NN BM
After the program at the school ground, Prasad participated in a plantation drive at the Nyingma Institute of Higher Studies situated in the area wherein Rhododendron Saplings were planted. He also visited the Sheda Campus and interacted with the students there.
