Sikkim: STNM Hospital Doctor Sanjay Upreti Who Was Stabbed, Passes Away

On December 14, Dr. Sanjay Upreti was stabbed by a jilted lover and died as a result of his injuries

GANGTOK: On December 14, Dr. Sanjay Upreti was assaulted by a spurned lover and died as a result of his wounds.

According to reports, Dr Sanjay Upreti, 45, died at 3 AM on Friday at Neotia Hospital in Siliguri. Dr. Upreti was stabbed while attempting to save a sanitary staff member who had been attacked by Thinlay Bhutia at the STNM hospital in Gangtok. Dr. Sanjay Upreti was stabbed near his crotch in the event, and his left leg had to be amputated as a result.

Dr. Upreti and his sanitary assistant Kalawati Chettri were ordered to be transported to Siliguri for medical treatment on December 15 by Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang. Kalawati Chettri, on the other hand, is claimed to have a serious medical ailment and is struggling for his life. Dr. Upreti was a leading heart surgeon at the STNM Hospital in Gangtok.

"Angry with his girlfriend for refusing to talk to him when she was in a hospital in Gangtok, Sikkim, attending to a sick family member, the man embarks on a violent rampage, attacking the doctor and sanitation attendant," police added. Dr. Upreti died in the early hours of Friday morning due to multi-organ failure.

"On the unfortunate loss of renowned cardiologist Dr Sanjay Upreti," Sikkim BJP president DB Chauhan expressed his sympathies. The medical community has suffered an irreparable loss as a result of Dr. Upreti's death."

Kalawati Chettri, a sanitary attendant, is fighting for her life at the hospital after suffering a serious abdomen injury and considerable bleeding. Despite her near-fatal injuries, she was resuscitated and is now'stable.'

Dr. Upreti served as a doctor in Sikkim for over 16 years. He received his MBBS and MD degrees from the King George Medical University in Uttar Pradesh and the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, Manipur, respectively. His invasive cardiology residency was completed at Medanta's The Medicity in Gurugram.
