GANGTOK : Sikkim will host two G20 meetings in March 2023. Among all the Northeast states, Sikkim is the only state selected for the meetings, stated Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Chief Coordinator for India's G20 presidency.
A meeting was organised on 16th of December in Gangtok, where Shringla put forward a presentation related to the preparation that needs to be accomplished for G20 presidency in India.
A total of 215 meetings organised by several groups will take place around the country in 56 cities. Out of these,one of the meetings will be conducted in Sikkim - Business (B20) on 16th of March 2023. Other than that, Start-up 20 will also be carried out two days later in the state.
The senior Indian Foreign Service official stated that the Himalayan state has been chosen to host the two events, Business 20 and Start up 20, because of its scenic beauty, development infrastructure and arrangements for accommodation.
Approximately 80 delegates will participate in the meeting from G20 countries. Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Sikkim for a day to have a discussion regarding the grand upcoming meeting to be held in the state. The meeting was attended by senior state government officers, along with Chief Secretary V B Pathak.
The topic of discussion revolved around security, accommodation, locations for the event, transportation system, and cultural events. Shringla urged everyone to work in a cooperative manner and make both the events successful.
Shringla also mentioned that, PM Narendra Modi wants to make the G20 presidency in India, a culture centric programme. He has desired that the diverse culture of India, history, tradition and development are demonstrated in the meeting.
V B Pathak, at the end of discussion, ensured him that Sikkim without any sort of disappointment will make the events grand and memorable.
