3 girls, including 2 minors, raped in Tripura amid coronavirus crisis

Amid the ongoing pandemic Tripura has registered three incidents of rape including two gang rapes in Khowai district.

Guwahati: Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the rape pandemic still remains a huge factor in India. The Northeast Indian state of Tripura has registered three incidents of rape; this includes two gang rapes in Khowai district.

In the first case, a 17-year-old girl was raped by five persons in a car on Tuesday when she went to Chakmaghat to visit her boyfriend. All the victims are residents of Mungiakami village.

As per sources, one of the rapists was known to be the victim's relative who assured her to drop her home in a car. However, there were 4 others who were in the car who all proceeded to rape the teen. Later, she was dumped at Teliamura in front of the branch office of UBI bank.

The victim managed to call her boyfriend who immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. She informed the police that she was raped by Kashim Mia, Jahed Mia, Ahamed Ali, Gani Mia, and one more person. The police are yet to arrest the accused.

In another case, a 7-year-old girl was raped at Teliamuru. The second incident took place when the minor went to answer nature's call. It has been reported that a youth raped her in a jungle. The girl told her mother about it and she filed an FIR.

In the third case, a gang rape took place at Champahour in Khowai district. and two rapists are being held by the police. The court has sent the accused to 14-days of judicial custody.
