Agartala bound Rajdhani Express train derailed, passengers safe

No passenger coach has been affected and there was no injury or casualty in the incident. Accident Relief Train and Medical Relief team had reached the scene.

Agartala: The engine of the Agartala-bound Rajdhani Express had derailed in North Tripura on Friday. No injury or casualty was reported in the incident as the coaches were not attached to the engine at the time.

The chief public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Subhanan Chanda had confirmed the incident and said that the engine 02502 of New Delhi-Agartala Special Rajdhani Express had jumped rails at the Kumarghat station.

"However, no passenger coach was derailed in the incident. There was no injury or casualty. The mishap occurred at KM 74/6 in Dharmanagar- Agartala section under Lumding division of NFR," said NFR in a statement.

An accident relief train was immediately dispatched from Badarpur and a Medical Relief team had left from Agartala for the site after word of the incident had been informed.

The NFR had also released a statement saying that the railway officials from Agartala and Karimganj had rushed for the accident site along with necessary men and material.

Normal train service in the Agartala-Dharmanagar section in Tripura was suspended as a result of the derailment. The official also said that efforts were on to restore normal operation in the section at the earliest.

Food and allied support were also arranged for stranded passengers at the scene. A medical team for trauma treatment was also called in with the help of the District administration to address the concerns of the stranded passengers.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the NFR had confirmed the restoration of normal movement of train services which were affected due to the derailment of the train engine of the 02502 New Delhi Agartala Special Rajdhani Express at Kumarghat station at 5:30 pm.

The affected train had left the site at 15-50 hrs after restoration by relief train officials.

However, the derailment had caused the cancellation, rescheduling and controlling of normal running trains. Agartala/Dharmanagar and Dharmanagar passenger special trains were cancelled due to the mishap.
