Agartala: Though the party participated in a joint agitation with Congress to protest against setting up of a firing range at Manu-Chailengta village of Kanchanpur sub-division under North Tripura District for the BSF, the CPI (M) has changed its stand and decided to support the range. The present position of the party is that they are not averse to eviction but want the families to be adequately compensated.
Local leaders of the CPI (M) and the Ganamukti Parishad were protesting against setting up of a firing range. But the scenario changed when a senior CPI (M) leader and an executive member of the TTAADC Rajendra Reang shared dais with the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Pradyot Bikram Kishor Debbarman held rallies at Kanchanpur. Some IPFT leaders also were there.
Manindra Reang, Kanchanpur divisional secretary of GMP made it clear that his organization will net oppose the setting up of firing range for training of the jawans and in the interest of the security of the country. However, he said there are over 800 tribal families residing in the proposed area and are sustaining on orchards of banana, Pineapple, etc., and they must be given adequate compensation.
