AGARTALA: A fresh incident of election-related violence has several persons injured in the poll-bound Northeast Indian state of Tripura. This incident took place on Friday.

Even the deployment of a record number of security personnel has not been able to stop violence related to polling in the state of Tripura. In yet another incident, the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party clashed with the supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on February 10. The incident took place in the Melaghar area of the Sepahjala district of the state and led to the injury of seven people.

According to reports, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Shyamal Chakraborty was campaigning when this incident took place. The group of CPIM members were engaged in door-to-door campaigning in the region when a group of miscreants started hurling slang at the candidate. This ultimately resulted in a scuffle between the two groups of supporters and seven people were injured in the incident.

Firefighters rushed to the location soon after the information went out and rescued several people. They also admited the injured in the Sonamura sub-district hospital. The critically injured persons were later shifted to the GB hospital for better treatment. According to reports, five supporters of the CPIM and two from the BJP were among the injured.

While the CPIM leaders alleged that it was an unprovoked attack on their candidate and workers, the BJP members have claimed that the public was merely asking them about their whereabouts in the past five years. They also alleged that the CPIM candidate did not try to stop his supporters during the incident.

The police arrived later and dispersed the crowd before starting an investigation into the matter. Reportedly, one Abdul Hossain received serious injuries in the incident. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in the locality to prevent another outbreak.
