Tripura: Human trafficking suspect wanted by National Investigation Agency arrested
AGARTALA: The Tripura Police arrested a human trafficking suspect on Sunday who was on the 'wanted list' of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), an official said.
The arrested individual was identified as Hannan Miah (41). He was detained in the Matinagar area of Tripura's Sepahijala district. According to sources, Hannan Miah is notorious as an ‘infamous human trafficker’, and he was wanted in connection with a human trafficking case pursued by the NIA.
The case has been pending at a Special NIA court in Guwahati. The official said that Hannan was handed over to an NIA team and would be taken to Guwahati on Monday. The central agency, after taking a transit remand from a local court, would take him to Guwahati on Monday for questioning.
Recently, Assam Police successfully thwarted fast-approaching human trafficking operation. The incident occurred in Bhogpur near the Narayanpur taluk of Lakhimpur district. Two individuals identified as Fakir Uddin and Mijanur Rahman were apprehended. They were clandestinely transporting a group of youths towards Arunachal Pradesh.
The measures taken by the residents as they grew suspicious of the duo's activities. They swiftly captured and handover to Narayanpur Police. Initial investigations have revealed a troubling connection between perpetrators and certain contractor named Amir Ali hinting at a larger network facilitating such heinous crimes.
According to police officials familiar with the case, the timely intervention of vigilant locals played crucial role in thwarting the trafficking attempt. The community members became wary of the suspicious interactions between the accused and the youths.
Recent data released by the RPF sheds light on the gravity of the situation. Within a span of just seven days 16 minors were rescued. These rescues occurred at various railway stations across the region between April 13 and April 19.
The RPF's actions are part of broader initiative aimed at combating human trafficking. This menace continues to pose significant threat to the region. The RPF collaborates with governmental and non-governmental agencies. These agencies include Government Railway Police (GRP), Childline and other NGOs.
