Agartala: Tripura performed better in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Scheme (MGNREGA) compared to previous years but a recent study revealed major disparity in distribution of work among the districts.
The study revealed that the only priority district of the State – Dhalai– expectedly remained much ahead of others by providing work of 63,38 days on an average which is much more compared to previous years. The district authority also got applauded for their performance.
Among other districts, Gomati come second with providing work for 45.91 days followed by Khowai third with 39.89 days, Sipahijala fourth with 37.89 days, North Tripura fifth with 37.18 days, South Tripura sixth with 35.76 days, Unokoti seventh with 35.13 days and West Tripura district eighth with 27.78 days.
The review identified lack of initiative from the officials of the districts concerned for lagging behind in implementation of the employment generation programme. In certain places it also accused the elected representatives and bodies for not taking timely initiative though there is no dearth of allocation of funds.
