AGARTALA: Reacting to the move to postpone the State's civic polls till February 27, 2021, senior CPI (M) leader Pabitra Kar said that while polls are being announced in all the States, Tripura is not taking any positive step on the same. He further said that the BJP government has lost its roots in Tripura, and are afraid to conduct the polls. The West Bengal government too postponed its elections. But the High Court interfered and further ordered the State to announce the dates for local body elections, added Kar. He called this as Tripura government's "irrational and undemocratic move."

Apart from Kar, Pijush Kanti Biswas of the Tripura Pradesh Congress said the party will move to the High Court if the poll dates are not announced immediately. The BJP State spokesperson, Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the polls were deferred after the SEC made the announcement to this effect. (Agencies)
