Agartala: Central security forces have started arriving in Tripura as the State police, in order to tighten up security ahead of the upcoming polls, rounded up nearly three hundred suspected miscreants.
Sources in the State police headquarters said central security forces are being deployed in various parts of the State considering their vulnerability. As a preventive measure, they are holding regular patrolling. Fixed posts also have been set up in areas which are considered sensitive.
No major incidents of violence have been reported from any part of the State but there are many allegations of intimidation. Representatives of the Opposition political parties, especially the CPI(M), has filed a series of allegations to regarding attacks on their workers. Parties also drew the attention of the Election Commission representative during the all-party meeting held here on Sunday and the Commission Secretary Arvind Anand reportedly instructed the State police to investigate each of the allegation and to send the report to the commission.
The police also launched a massive drive against illicit liquor across the State on Sunday and arrested nine persons from different parts of Agartala. They also destroyed huge quantity of illegal liquor.
