AGARTALA: Police In Dharmanagar, located in the North district of Tripura, have successfully apprehended three drug peddlers. Acting on confidential information, the police conducted a raid at Kalibari Dighi, where they arrested Abdul Osud (18), Kabil Ahmed (25), and Sribas Nath (26), all residents of Dharmanagar. Along with the arrests, the police confiscated a significant quantity of illegal substances, including 6.5 grams of heroin and 1400 Yaba tablets. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is in lakhs. Additionally, a motorcycle used by the suspects was impounded by the police.

The breakthrough in this case was made possible by the disclosure provided by Sanjib Kalua (30), who was apprehended a day earlier in Rajbari, Dharmanagar. Sanjib's interrogation yielded crucial information, leading to the subsequent arrests of Abdul Osud, Kabil Ahmed, and Sribas Nath.

This operation marks a significant achievement for the Tripura Police, following a previous successful incident in Dharmanagar on May 5. In that instance, the police apprehended three individuals and seized Yaba Tablets valued at Rs 6 crore. The operation was based on intelligence received from Sonamura Sub-division in Sepahijala district, which indicated a plan to transport a substantial quantity of banned Yaba tablets from Assam to Tripura.

Late at night, a Bolero car heading towards Assam was detained upon entering Tripura. The police arrested the three occupants, identified as Subhankar Debnath, Idrish Miah, and Rajat Paul, all residents of Dhanpur in Sonamura Sub-division. During a thorough inspection of the vehicle, the police discovered and seized 60,000 banned Yaba tablets, with a total value of Rs 6 crore.

Superintendent Bhanupada Chakraborty of the North District Police highlighted the potential dangers associated with the consumption of these narcotics, as they can incite individuals to commit crimes. The successful seizure of contraband is expected to contribute to the reduction of criminal activities and ensure public safety. It demonstrates the Tripura Police's commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.

In a separate incident, on March 30, the Tripura Police seized 3,660 kg of ganja valued at Rs 7.3 crore and arrested two individuals. The police intercepted an Assam-bound ten-wheeler oil tanker at a check gate in Pecharthal, Unakoti district. The driver of the vehicle, Priyalal Debbarma (27), and his assistant Paresh Debbarma (42) were taken into custody. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.

This recent seizure followed another successful operation where the Border Security Force (BSF) troopers seized 1,385 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 2.8 crore in western Tripura. Three drug peddlers were arrested in Sidhai during that incident.
