AGARTALA: With the Assembly Elections just a few days away, the state has recorded a huge surge in the confiscation of cash as well as contraband. So much so that it has broken all past records.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer for Tripura, Kiran Gitte, materials worth more than Rs 29 Cr were apprehended in the state in the past two weeks. This duration is the same as the activation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state post declaration of the dates of voting in the state. He also mentioned that all steps are being taken to make the upcoming elections free from any violence.

It is also important to note that a huge force comprising more than 43000 security personnel from multiple agencies has been deployed in the Northeast Indian state to avoid any violence. More than half that number is currently engaged in flag marches, area domination and naka checking in different parts of the state.

"ECI has taken firm action against the complaints of violence and other violations of the election code this time. We are working in mission mode to make this assembly poll a model for the country in terms of election management," Kiran Gitte mentioned.

While the printing of ballots has been completed, the commissioning of EVMs was scheduled to start on December 6. Work is going on towards the setting up of ramps at more than 500 polling stations for the access of differently-abled voters. Election Commission is also planning to set up 88 model polling stations, 97 polling stations run by women, 33 polling stations run by women and 28 more by specially-abled officers.

"In the model polling stations, the state's tradition and culture along with important tourist destinations would be showcased to hold the election in a different fervour," added the election official.
