AGARTALA: The new students of the Maharaja Bir Bikram College were urged by the Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha to assume responsibility for maintaining the college's rich history. Speaking at the college's Nabin Baron program on Monday, he reminisced about the institution's long history and mentioned how many of its former students now occupy prominent positions in various nations. He also advised the college's newcomers to get ready to carry on this tradition.
He stated that since students are the country's future, it will be up to them to see that the ideals of "Ek Bharat Srestha Bharat" and "Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura" are realized to the full extent. He recalled the Prime Minister's speech to the students in which he stressed the importance of knowledge as power. He brought up the Prime Minister's speech to the students, in which he declared that "knowledge is power" and exhorted them to pursue it wholeheartedly.
In order to attain the goal of true knowledge, he emphasized the importance of a positive relationship between teachers and students and advised the latter to be sincere in their work. In addition to following the curriculum, he instructed the teachers to teach the students morality and humanity lessons.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday provided three options to the 284 students affected by the Manipur violence to avail their education at two central universities in Assam or Meghalaya, or through the online mode. A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra also asked the committee led by Justice Gita Mittal, which is overseeing the implementation of relief, rehabilitation and confidence-building measures in the state, to explore better administrative decisions to aid the situation of the students.
The top court asked the students to either get admission to Assam University in Silchar or North Eastern Hill University in Shillong or attend classes online. It asked the students to contact the nodal officer appointed by the Registrar of Manipur University regarding the logistics of the admission process. For the students who are not willing to opt for the above options and continue to have issues, they could submit their grievances before the Justice Gita Mittal Committee, said the bench.
