AGARTALA: Another report of election-related violence came in from the poll-bound state of Tripura where a female member was the party was reportedly harassed by the people of her own party.
The Chairperson of the Tripura Commission of Women and member of the previously ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Barnali Goswami was reportedly physically harassed. The reason for the same was her alleged involvement in a campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Dharamanagar constituency, Biswa Bandhu Sen. Biswa Bandhu Sen was the Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly after being elected from the same constituency in the previous election.
According to reports, Barnali Goswami was expecting a ticket for the upcoming elections in the state. And when she failed to get the same, she started to campaign silently against Biswa Bandhu Sen by urging people not to cast votes for her party candidate.
“Barnali is now involved in antiparty activities and carried out a silent campaign against BJP candidate and deputy speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen in a move to defeat him. She wanted to contest the election but as she didn’t get the ticket she now launched a campaign against Sen”, mentioned a member of the party.
“She came at my home and requested me to cast vote for Congress as former minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman is going to be the next Chief Minister of Tripura”, mentioned one of the agitators.
A video regarding the incident also made rounds on social media. The video showed some women members of the party dragging Barnali Goswami out of a house.
While claiming her innocence regarding the matter, Barnali Goswami said, ““Election for the Assembly is coming and with whom I have worked for a long a time on behalf of BJP, I came here in Dharmanagar to hold meeting with them. When I came at the resident of Biswajit Malakar of BJP karyakarta, then all of a sudden some people in the name of BJP gheraoed me and dragged me out side of home and assaulted me. I don’t understand under whose direction they have carried out such attack on me. “
