Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress president Pradyot Bikram Kishor Debbarman reiterated his position of putting his own community ahead of his party and sparked many speculations about his possible political move.
The Pradesh Congress president was speaking from a platform of larger tribal unity where senior CPI(M) leader and an Executive Member of the TTAADC Rajendra Reang and leaders from many other parties also were present.
The development sparked many speculations as the election for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council is slated to be held early next years. Many speculate that the opposition political parties may get united to give a tough fight to the BJP.
The platform was set up to protest against the proposed firing range for the BSF at Manu-Chailengta area and the leaders were vociferous against possible eviction of tribals from the area. A rally also was organized when the people were carrying placard saying ‘Government of India, Save the Tribal’. All the leaders delivered hard talks but many eyebrows were raised when Pradyot Bikram criticized acts of his party committed five decades ago and said eviction of tribal for setting up of Dambur Hydal Porject was a betrayal with the tribals. He said I may not remain PCC president after one year but my community identity will remain.
